Paul M. Weisel

CORVALLIS, OR. – Paul M. Weisel, age 88, died peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, August 19, 2014 in Corvallis, OR.

He was born August 3, 1926 in Milwaukee, WI and after high school there, served in the U.S. Navy from 1944-1946. Following this he attended the University of Wisconsin receiving a Bachelors Degree in Education and Masters Degree in counseling. He married Grace Sanderson in 1951 and together they raised 5 children. From 1955 to 1959 he attended Garrett Theological Seminary receiving a Masters Degree in Theology in 1959. Besides serving a number of churches including the Republic, Woodland, Palmer and Salisbury Methodist churches in the U.P., he served for 10 years in a large state institution for the mentally disabled, directed a residential treatment program for emotional disturbed children, administered a residential program for the elderly, served Latin children and their families in Milwaukee’s inner city and at a county mental hospital in Wisconsin.

In 1988 he married Anne (Sandstrom) Johnson of Negaunee and moved there. They lived in the Sandstrom family home for 18 years before moving to Washington State’s Olympic Peninsula to be closer to family there.

While still living in Negaunee he also served as Campus Pastor at NMU, as one of the chaplains at Marquette Branch Prison for 5 years, after which he also served as a volunteer Grandpa for 4 years in a pre-school program for 3-4 year old children. Paul had a special love of children of all kinds.

He was a lifelong outdoor enthusiast, enjoying fishing, golf, tennis and swimming and especially enjoyed feeding the birds. He was an avid reader.

Paul is survived by his loving wife Anne, his children Mark and Sanderson Weisel, daughters Nancy Weisel, Judy (Weisel) Loizzo, Amy (Weisel) Danielson, step-children Mark L. Johnson, Vicky (Johnson) Nokleby, Lynn (Johnson) Demers, his brother Robert Weisel of Sierra Vista, AZ and 12 grandchildren he and Anne shared together.

A private family memorial service will be held at a future date.
