‘The Rivals’ at Readers Theater

MARQUETTE – Readers Theater welcomes the public to join in a reading of “The Rivals” by Richard Sheridan at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Peter White Public Library Shiras Room.

The evening’s script is a comedy of errors first performed in 1775 whose plot centers on the two young lovers, Lydia and Jack. She wants a purely romantic love affair. He courts her pretending to be a poor officer. Eloping with a soldier enthralls her over the objections of her guardian, Mrs. Malaprop, a moralistic widow.

Readers Theater is a group of adults who are interested in drama and are willing and able to read a scripted role. They meet on the third Thursday of each month to read plays for enjoyment. New readers are always welcome.
