MARQUETTE – Officials at the Peter White Library say they are hopeful they may be able to offer area residents in the months ahead not just a good book, but access to a local telecommunications node. Director Ruth Kell said the service will prove an important key in linking Upper Peninsula libraries and their patrons with libraries downstate. The node would be a microcomputer, operated by a private computer information firm such as Telenet, which currently offer personal computer operators access to an ever-widening variety of information (called databases), from stock reports to electronic newspapers.
