‘Philadelphia’ screening Thursday
MARQUETTE – Peter White Public Library’s Film Club invites the public to a free screening of the modern classic film “Philadelphia” at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the library’s Community Room.
Inspired, in part, by the true life experiences of attorney Geoffrey Bowers and his client Clarence B, Cain, this film is the story of a man with AIDS who is fired by his law firm because of his condition. He hires a homophobic small time lawyer as the only willing advocate for a wrongful dismissal suit.
“Philadelphia” stars Tom Hanks and Denzel Washington and is one of the first mainstream Hollywood films to acknowledge HIV/AIDS, homosexuality, and homophobia.
The film won two Academy Awards and was released in 1993, is rated PG-13 and runs for 125 minutes. Light refreshments will be served.
There is no admission charge thanks to sponsorship by the Friends of the Peter White Public Library. For more information, visit www.pwpl.info or call 226-4318.
