Man injured in bike crash
ISHPEMING – A 50-year-old man was taken to Bell Hospital Friday morning with non-life-threatening injuries after the bicycle he was riding was struck by a car along U.S. 41 in Ishpeming.
Ishpeming City Police Department officers did not release the names of those involved in the crash Friday. The accident was reported at 11:32 a.m. and occurred near the driveway for Hill Top RV, located along the north side of the highway.
Police said a Volkswagen Passat driven by a Champion man, age 30, was attempting to make a right turn from the driveway onto U.S. 41, when the car struck the man on the bicycle.
Police said the bicyclist had been eastbound on the westbound shoulder of the highway and attempted to cross the highway at the driveway.
Police said neither driver saw the other before the crash occurred. The crash remains under investigation, however, officers said the bicyclist appeared to be at fault because he was traveling against the flow of traffic.
Ishpeming Police were assisted by Michigan State Police, Bell EMS and the Ishpeming Volunteer Fire Department.
