Karen S. Ostermeyer

L’ANSE, MI. – Karen S. Ostermeyer, age 46, of L’Anse, MI was surrounded by friends and family when she was released from the pain of cancer on Wednesday, August 13, 2014.

The world was rewarded on June 21, 1968 by her birth in Ishpeming, MI. Karen was born to Norman and Sandra (Mackey) Ostermeyer, she attended Westwood High School in West Ishpeming, MI, where she was a member of the graduating Class of 1986. Following high school, she attended Northern Michigan University and earned an Associate degree in business, along with a Bachelor of Science degree.

Karen was adored and loved by all who knew her. She could often be seen at sporting events supporting her brother, nieces and nephews. The legacy of her kind, sweet, and caring spirit will be carried on by her pride and joy, her nieces and nephews, Jacob, Emma, Max, Eli and Isabel. Karen also had a tremendous amount of love and dedication for her loyal companion, her dog Jake.

Karen gave of herself tirelessly and treated every friend or acquaintance as if they were family. She left footprints on the hearts of many during the different stages of her life, but throughout each stage, Karen was blessed to have a best friend, Jeri Brisson, whose unconditional friendship proved to be a true gift.

Karen also enjoyed her close relationships with the members of the “Chub Club”: Noelle Champion, Lori Marshall, Mary Charmley, Julie Liberty, Nancy Lindstrom, Debbie Bender LaRose, “MaMa Chub” (Sally Pole), and Jeri Brisson, who will undoubtedly ever have the same chemistry as when Karen was a part of their sisterhood. In their final demonstration of love and support, members of the “Chub Club” will serve as pallbearers for their cherished friend.

Karen is now reunited with her mother Sandra and her twin brother Jeffrey who gained his wings after only three short days on this earth. She is also preceded in death by her uncle Richard Mackey.

Her loss will be immeasurably felt by her surviving family – her father, Norman Ostermeyer, her beloved brother, Michael Ostermeyer, her nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles including: Gary Ostermeyer, Marvin (Barbara) Mackey, Helen (Steve) Archibald, Arlene (Jim) Hanninen, Gene (Shirley) Mackey, and Linda Mackey.

Although Karen lost her mother at a young age, she was fortunate enough to gain a “second mother”, Sally Pole, who loved her as her as if she was her own. Along with her family and friends, Karen also had the fortune to have the love and support of Melissa Ostermeyer through her final days on earth.

She was truly one of God’s angels who walked among us and now has her wings. It’s been a long road, but Karen is now blissfully free.

A celebration of Karen’s life will be held at 3:00pm on Sunday, August 17 with Leon Jarvis officiating at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home in Ishpeming where Karen’s family will greet relatives and friends from 1:00pm until the time of service at 3:00pm
