Janet Kay Krauss

SHELBY, MI. – Janet Kay Krauss, age 71, of Shelby and formerly of Marquette, passed away peacefully on Wednesday afternoon, March 26, 2014 at the Meier Heart Center in Grand Rapids, MI. surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on August 29, 1942 in Alma, Michigan, the daughter of Marion Francis and Henrietta (Riggs) Brecht.

Janet married Michael G. Krauss on April 1, 1961 and was a graduate of the class of 1961 from Alma High School. She was a homemaker who loved to cook for her family and enjoyed looking for and trying new recipes. She looked forward to Spring when she and her daughter would visit all of the local greenhouses, nurseries and farmers markets.

Janet enjoyed planting flowers and canning the fruits and vegetables from Mike’s garden. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and every visit to the U.P. meant a trip to the Villa for steak. Janet was a beautiful, patient, caring soul and is deeply missed by all who knew her.

Janet is survived by her husband of 54 years, Michuel; her sons, Mark and Matt, both of Shelby; her daughter, Deirdre (Cameron) Hill of Marquette; her grandchildren, Tara (Ryan Campbell) Hill, Robert (Samantha Mausolf) Krauss, Rachel Krauss, Alyssa Krauss and Brent Krauss; her great-grandchildren, Ava, Ashton, Stevie (Aurora) and Brady; her brother Marion Brecht, her sisters, Jean Alward, Helen Daymon, Marylou Zelis and Agnes Dubay; numerous nieces, nephews, her dear friend Mary Catherman, family friends and church friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Betty Dudley, her brothers; Kenneth Brecht and Richard Brecht, sister-in-law, Marjorie Brecht, brothers-in-law; Donald Alward, Vern Daymon, Lyle Zelis and Sonny Dubay. Janet lost her eldest son, Michael G. Krauss II on July 21, 2012.

A celebration of Janet’s life will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2014 at Newman Christian Reformed Church in Shelby.
