Julie M. Iery-King

HARVEY, MI. – Julie M. Iery-King, age 69, of Harvey, entered eternal life Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at Marquette General Hospital in the loving and comforting care of her family and Upper Peninsula Home Health and Hospice.

Born July 4, 1945 in Marquette, a daughter of Charles H. and Viola (Howard) Martin, Julie was raised in Marquette and attended Graveraet High School. She later returned to school and received her high school diploma in 1972 through the Adult Education Program offered by the Marquette Senior High School. For most of her working life, Julie was involved in food service, first at Wahlstrom’s Restaurant in Harvey where she began as a waitress and later became assistant manager, a career that spanned 18.5 years. She then went to work at KI Sawyer Air Force Base, serving as a food service supervisor for a private contractor for four years. Her last employment was with the Alger Correctional Facility (Alger Max) in Munising where she was food service supervisor until her retirement in 2002. Julie’s hobbies and interests centered mainly around “having fun.” She enjoyed hunting, fishing, 4-wheeling, going to camp, visiting the casino, and working puzzles. She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary #2013 of the Jopling Post of the American Legion.

Survivors include her husband, Richard, whom she married August 5, 1994 in Marquette; her daughters, Laurie (Andrew) Iery-Kassman of Tucson, AZ and Kelly Iery (Don DeBaere) of Harvey; step-sons, Dale King and James King of Flat Rock, and Kevin (Pam) King of Riverland; her grandchildren, Dylan Kassman, Stephanie Hahn, Joshua “Cubby” LaBelle, and Kristin, Nicholas, Kent, Shannon, and Christina King; great great-grandchild, Kenzie Zimmerman; sisters-in-law, Nina Martin of Ishpeming and Mignon Martin in Ohio; a brother-in-law, Les Urquhart of Chicago, IL; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Julie was preceded in death by a sister, Arlene Urquhart; brothers, Henry Martin and Charles “Butch” Martin.

Friends may call at the Fassbender Funeral Home on Monday, August 11, from 3:00 pm until the time of service at 5:00 pm. Rev. Chad Ott will officiate. A reception will follow at the Bayou Inn in Harvey. Interment will be made at the Gardens of Rest Memorial Park in Escanaba.
