Patricia Worthington

NEGAUNEE, MI. – Patricia Jean ‘Patti’ Worthington, 70, of Negaunee, MI passed away Sunday afternoon, August 3, 2014 in her home under the loving care of her family and U.P. Home Health and Hospice following a courageous 2 year battle with cancer.

Patti was born February 13, 1944 in Ishpeming to Paul ‘Bucko’ and Eugenia ‘Jean’ (Jylha) Maino and graduated from Negaunee High School, Class of 1962. In her early years, Patti was a skilled softball player and was recruited by numerous teams to pitch during weekend tournaments. She played softball for over 30 years on many different teams and passed down her pitching skills to her sisters and daughter.

In 2005, Patti became a member of the Red Cross and traveled to Mississippi to help with cleanup efforts after Hurricane Katrina. For the last several years, Patti and her husband (R.W.) have spent their winters in Biloxi, MS where they enjoyed golfing during the weekdays, Friday night dinners with friends, and reading and relaxing away from the U.P. winters. Patti enjoyed reading mystery novels, knitting slippers and blankets for family and friends, watching golf on TV and spending time with family, friends and her grandchildren.

Patti was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Eugenia Maino, and her only son, Matthew Paul Worthington, who she has missed terribly these last 20 years.

Patti is survived by: her husband of 46 years, Robert T. Worthington (R.W.); 2 daughters, Christy (Lloyd) Cate of Appleton, WI and Bobbie (Ed) Champion of Negaunee, MI; 7 grandchildren, Sethan, Liam and Brennan Cate, Ielee Shiroda, Shelby, Samantha and Zachery Champion; 5 siblings Michael (Christine) Maino of Gwinn, MI, Tony Maino of Negaunee, MI, Julie (Steve) Herman of Negaunee, MI, Jeanne (Robert) Bushey of Mountain Home, AR, and Geno (Rebecca) Maino of Ishpeming, MI; 10 nieces and nephews and 6 (soon to be 7) great nieces and nephews; many cousins, an Uncle Wallace Anderson and longtime friends Roseanne Fleury and Betty Coduti.
