Julia R. Kisro

NEWBERRY, MI. – Lifelong Newberry resident, Julia R. Kisro, 94, died Friday afternoon August 1, 2014 at her residence with her family at her side and the care of North Woods Hospice.

Born January 17, 1920 in Newberry, daughter of the late Herman & Olga (Newman) Freytag, she was a 1939 graduate of Newberry High and attended the former Lake Superior State University in Sault Ste. Marie. Julia was employed as a telephone operator for Michigan Bell for several years until her retirement.

Julia was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, member of the American Legion Post #74 Ladies Auxiliary and a contributing member of the Luce County Historical Society for over 30 years.

Julia enjoyed being at gatherings with her family especially during the holidays and enjoyed eating out with family and friends. In her spare time she solved crossword puzzles and Sudoku, enjoyed berry picking, playing cards and being at the lake with her family. She also loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Julia was a regular attendee of bingo with her friends Margaret Somers and Linda Wheeler.

In addition to her parents, Julia is preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Gustave, granddaughter Aleta Kay Kisro, great-granddaughter Amanda Kisro and siblings Esther Stellman, Ethel Freytag, Lilly Brownlee, Audrey Freytag, John Freytag and Herman Freytag.

Survivors include her children Duane (Kerry) Kisro, Rodney (Darlene) Kisro and Byron Kisro all of Newberry and Carolyn Kisro of Marquette; grandchildren Dennis (Jaynie) Kisro, Donna Bultema, Deanna Kisro, Heidi Blakely, Gustave (Tara) Kisro, Maria Kisro and Kali Kisro; great-grandchildren Steven, Jacob, Kateasha, Kevan, Chazze, Arrienne, Brie, Kaytlynn, Jayne and Hayden; brother Henry Freytag of Newberry.

Friends may call at the Beaulieu Funeral Home in Newberry on Wednesday August 6, 2014 from 12:00 noon to 2:00 pm. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 pm at the funeral home with Pastor Arthur Bode, of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, officiating. Interment will take place at Forest Home Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Kevin Blakely, Jake Kisro, Steven Kisro, Gustave Kisro, Gary Hiltunen and Calvin Ruby.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Helen Newberry Joy Hospital, North Woods Home Health and Hospice and Community Action Agency for their kindness extended to Julia throughout her illness.
