Old-Timers eye game today

MARQUETTE – Thanks to a request from organizers of the fourth annual Marquette Township Community Day, the Negaunee and Marquette Old-Timers softball teams will stage a rubber match today in their season series.

The teams have already played their usual two games this summer, with each winning once. The township’s Lions Field will host the third game of the season at 5 p.m. during an all-day softball tournament held as a fundraiser for improvements at the field.

Now in its 18th year, Negaunee leads 20-16 in the Old-Timers series between players all at least 62 years old.

This year, the West Enders won the opener at Negaunee’s LaCombe Field, 20-3, on July 9 before Marquette came back for a 9-5 victory at Hurley Field on July 18.
