Police complete probe into fatal shooting

NEGAUNEE – Michigan State Police at the Negaunee post completed its investigation into the officer shooting of an Alger County man July 14 in Munising Township, but the results are not being released.

The report was submitted to the Alger County Prosecutor’s Office for review, and no additional information will be released pending the review, according to a press release from the state police.

A Munising City Police Department officer shot Timothy Mitchell following a high speed chase, police said earlier.

Police said the shooting occurred after a report of an altercation in Christmas and a pursuit by a Munising city police officer down Federal Forest Highway 13 onto Buckhorn Road, where the fleeing suspect’s passenger car crashed.
