Negaunee man strikes utility pole, downs power lines
NEGAUNEE – A Negaunee man was taken to Bell Hospital in Ishpeming Wednesday afternoon for treatment of injuries after his vehicle left the road and struck a utility pole, downing live power lines onto his vehicle.
The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office said at about 2:40 p.m. John Argall, 65, was driving his 2003 Cadillac sedan north on North Road near Mattson Road in Negaunee Township when he crossed the southbound lane, traveled into the west ditch and struck a utility pole.
Police said the impact caused the pole to snap in half, freeing power lines that then landed on his vehicle. Argall stayed in the car until first responders and the Marquette Board of Light and Power deactivated the downed lines, police said.
Bell Hospital EMS then transported him to the hospital where he was treated for minor injuries and released. Police said he was found to be at fault in the accident.
North Road was closed for several hours while utility crews worked to restore power and repair the pole.
The accident remains under investigation.
