Charlotte A. (Pekuri) Hall
ISHPEMING, MI. – Charlotte A. (Pekuri) Hall, age 85, former Champion resident, passed away Tuesday July 29, 2014 at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility in Ishpeming.
Charlotte was born August 27, 1928 in Jackson, MI to H. Arthur & Ada (Fetterhoff) Schilling. In her early adulthood Charlotte worked at the H.W. Gossard Company in Ishpeming. She married Robert Pekuri on August 2, 1928. Together Charlotte and ‘Bob’ raised five children in their modest, Christian home. Finances, or lack thereof, had little or no impact on their contented family life. Entertainment many times consisted of the family gathering around the piano or accordion in song or going for a family car or horse-drawn sled ride. Their doors were always open to those in need; as a result many were provided food, shelter and fellowship over the years. She and Bob operated a Sinclair Gas Station in Humboldt when the children were young. In later years of their marriage, Charlotte worked at the Ishpeming Coast to Coast Store.
She used her excellent seamstress and knitting skills to create clothes for her children, extended family and friends. She enjoyed singing and playing the piano and the accordion. She was a member of Eastern Star, and was a former Sunday School and 4-H teacher. She attended church services and other events offered at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility, where she had resided for the past few years. She was formerly an active and longtime member of the Green Acres Assembly of God Church in Sumter, North Carolina.
Charlotte is survived by her children: Arlene Martin of Chicago, IL, Joan Schultz of Ishpeming, Debbie (Dave) Wiljanen of Humboldt, Michael Pekuri of Ishpeming and Mark (Linda) Pekuri of Sumter, SC. She is also survived by her two sisters: Sharon (Don) Campbell of Marquette and Robin Schilling of AuTrain, and two brothers: Donald (Melody) Holmes of Statesville, NC and Robert Holmes of Jackson, MI. 13 grandchildren survive her as well: Pam (Stacey) Shepard, Bradley (Linda) Schultz, Tricia Schultz, Corey Schultz, Danielle (Bryan) Schultz, Emily (Steve) Salmio, Erin Wiljanen, Kim (Rob) Fenn, Crystal (Kevin) Eggert, Brittany Pekuri, and Aaron, Eric and Jared Pekuri, along with several great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Charlotte was preceded in death by her first husband Robert Pekuri, second husband Edsel Hall, a sister Gerry Messiere, an infant sister, Hazel Schilling and a grandson, Freddie Martin.
