Robert P. ‘Bob’ Houle, Sr.

HARVEY, MI. – Robert P. “Bob” Houle, Sr., age 69, of Harvey, entered eternal life on Saturday, July 19, 2014, at his home, in the loving care of his family and caregivers of Lake Superior Hospice.

Bob was born in Marquette on September 24, 1944, a son of Albert J. and Florence (Paull) Houle. A lifelong Marquette area resident, Bob attended the Marquette area schools. On February 1, 1964, Bob married the former Marcia Black and together the couple made their home in Marquette and raised a family. Bob first worked for Cliff Dow Chemical for a brief time. He then was employed with Flanigan Brothers Moving and Storage Company before beginning a career as a laborer with the Laborer’s Union, working until his retirement in 1990. In retirement, Bob had more time to pursue favorite pastimes such as fishing, bird hunting, and going to the casino. He enjoyed visiting with his lifelong friends at the Wooden Nickel and always welcomed spending time having a good conversation with friends, sharing a good cup of coffee.

Survivors include his daughters, Tina (Mike Sarasien) Houle of Marquette, Mary Beth (Joe) Gendron of Gladstone; his sons, Jerry (Kathy) Cox-Houle of Harvey; Robert (Diana) Houle, Jr. of Marquette, and Mike Houle of Green Bay, WI; his grandchildren, Andrew, Jeremy, and Tiffany Rushton, Ashely Melka-Houle, Chelsea, Matthew, and Aereauna Houle, Kaylee (Joe Enright) and Jessica Hassell, Shannon and Aimee Gendron; several great-grandchildren; his brothers, Al “Sonny” Houle of Marquette, Don “Duck” (Cheryl) Houle of Harvey, Lloyd (Patty) Houle of Harvey, Billy (Sandy) Houle of Marquette; his sister, Sandy (Jerry) Huron of Marquette, his sister-in-law, Charlotte Houle of Marquette; a brother-in-law, Bill Beckman of Marquette; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; and his canine companion, Bandit.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Marcia, on July 4, 2012; his parents; a sister, Betty Beckman; his brother-in-law, Tom Black; and a son-in-law, Scott Hassell.

A graveside service will be held at the Holy Cross Cemetery on Thursday, July 24 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Leon Jarvis presiding. The family will greet friends at a reception to follow at the Bayou Inn, 200 W. Main Street, Harvey.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
