Officers hurt in foot chase
SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. (AP) – Sault Ste. Marie police say two officers are recovering from injuries they sustained in falls while chasing two teenage suspects on foot in the dark.
Officer Chris Stempsky sustained a severe skull fracture and was flown to Marquette General Hospital for surgery.
Police say the chase happened about 4 a.m. Thursday and was part of a crackdown on thefts from vehicles and vandalism.
Police say Stempsky slid down an embankment and struck a boulder. They say Officer Nate Kaczmarek hurt his foot in a 7-foot fall.
