Richard Carlyon Boase

MARQUETTE, MI – Richard Carlyon Boase, 97, of 410 Lost Creek Drive, Marquette, died at 6:33 pm on Thursday, July 17, 2014 at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans where he had resided since June 26th.

Richard was born March 8, 1917 in Ishpeming to Thomas and Minnie (Carlyon) Boase and attended Ishpeming schools. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during WWII in the European Theatre of Operations, including the Battle of Normandy. Following his service to his country, he was employed as a truck driver for Cleveland Cliffs Iron Company, retiring in 1972 with 30 years of service.

Mr. Boase was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), and was a member of the American Legion in Winter Haven, FL while they lived there for 7 years.

He and his wife enjoyed traveling and dancing to big band music, giving him the nickname ‘Rubber Legs.’ Richard also enjoyed golfing, which he began at the age of 80, and fishing.

Surviving are his loving wife, Bertha M. (Wainio) Boase; son, Richard (Darlene) Boase of Winchester, TN; 2 grandchildren: Richard Boase of Mesa, AZ and Chad (Caroline) Boase of Negaunee; 3 great-grandchildren: Kelsey and Katalina Boase, and Kalob Durand; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers and 2 sisters.

Memorial services will be held at a later date and will be announced by the Koskey Funeral Home.
