John E. McIntyre

ISHPEMING, MI – John E. McIntyre, age 64 of 317 S. Lake St. Ishpeming passed away Wednesday July 16, 2014 at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility where he had been a resident since 1998 following a tragic fall.

John was born April 2, 1950 in Detroit, MI to the late Robert L. & Barbara I. (Foxton) McIntyre Sr.. He graduated from Allen Park High School with honors in 1968. John served in the Air Force from October 27, 1969 until his honorable discharge on March 7, 1972. While serving in the Air Force John was designated honor graduate from the TV Equipment Repair Course, Department of Audio-Visual Communications, US Army Communications School. Upon leaving the Air Force he opened his own business, The World of Color Television. He continued with his career until an accident in 1998 left him disabled.

John had a passion for sports, coaching hockey, and for many years coaching baseball in the Ishpeming Little League for which the end of year tournament is named in his honor, Ishpeming Little League McIntyre Tournament. John was an avid Lions, Tigers and Red Wings fan, he was a pool shark playing for the Wonder Bar in the Ishpeming Pool League. John was passionate about everything and everyone he loved. John was a member of the United Presbyterian Church of Ishpeming.

John is survived by his wife Lois (Mannila) McIntyre, whom he married on May 6, 1995, his children: J.J. (Stacie) McIntyre of Ishpeming, Brandon McIntyre of Gwinn, Sarah (fiance’ James Pleaugh) McIntyre of Ishpeming and Amber (Justin) St. Antoine of Ishpeming, 2 brothers: Robert (Carolyn) McIntyre Jr. of Howell, MI and Richard McIntyre of Lewiston, MI, a sister Patricia Moore of Ashville, NC, 10 grandchildren: Kaylee, Cydnee, Shawn McIntyre, Reese Jessica Pleaugh, Taryn and Benjamin Johnson, Max, Alex, Addy and Eva St. Antoine, mother in law Virginia Mannila of Ishpeming, along with brothers in law, sisters in law, and numerous nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents, a brother David and a son Adam Johnson.

A Memorial Service will be held at 6:00pm on Thursday July 24, 2014 at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home with Rev Leon Jarvis presiding. John’s family will greet relatives and friends at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home on Thursday, July 24th from 4:00pm until the time of service at 6:00pm.

Military honors will be accorded by the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 380.

Inurnment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery with a celebration of John life to be held in August with the date to be announced later.

Memorial considerations may be directed to the United Presbyterian Church, 112 E. Euclid St. Ishpeming, MI or the Ishpeming Little League 748 Elliott Ave. Ishpeming, MI 49849 in memory of John.

John’s family would like to THANK the staff at MCMCF (John’s extended family) without their loving compassionate care it would not have been possible for John’s family to have him for the past 16 years.
