Pet Health Fair – The Upper Peninsula Animal Welfare Shelter is having a Pet Health Fair from 1-5 p.m. at the Black Bear Grill, 301 Avenue A, K.I. Sawyer. This is an opportunity to learn about animal health and care. Lots of free pet stuff (while supplies last). UPAWS will be available to answer questions about its programs, services and adoptions. Room at the Inn – Members of local Boy Scout Troop 302, invite the community to support a new service project for Room at the Inn. Members of the Troop will be at St. Michael’s Church in Marquette before and after the masses the weekend of July 19. They will be collecting the following items to make 25-50 personal hygiene kits for the Room at the Inn guests: Band- aids, gauze, tooth paste, tooth brushes, trial size shampoo soap, reusable grocery style bags, and wash cloths. When the shelter is back in operation, in September, these will make a great gift to those in need. Donations can be dropped off anytime at St. Michaels Church in Marquette as well. Worship and Barbecue – Bethel Lutheran Church of Ishpeming will have an outdoor worship service at 10:30 a.m. at Al Quaal Recreation Area. The service will be followed by a barbecue. Those attending are asked to bring a salad or bars, a lawn chair or blanket, and their own dishes and eating utensils. Hamburgers, hot dogs, brats and buns along with beverages will be provided. Hike – The North Country Trail Hikers Chapter of the North Country Trail Association will hold its third Sunday hike. Plan to meet at the Elliott Donnelley Wilderness Parking lot, 12 miles north of Marquette on County Road 550, at 12:45 p.m. Participants will then carpool to a small parking area and start hiking at 1 p.m. to the Little Garlic Falls and the Little Garlic Balds Preserve. Dance – A dance is planned at the Trenary Community Building from 1 to 5 p.m. Music will provided by A Little Bit of Outlaws. Everyone is welcome. Admission is $5 and lunch will be available for $3.

Benefit – A benefit dinner to help Madison Tahtinen, a 2-year-old facing surgery in Ann Arbor, is set from 2 to 7 p.m. at the Bayou Bar and Grill in Harvey. The event is a spaghetti dinner and silent auction. Music will be provided by Michael Hozz starting at 3 p.m. Tickets are $8 for adults and $4 for kids.
