Red Bulls U12 go 2-0, Wave U14 are 1-1 at USA Cup in Blaine

BLAINE, Minnesota – A 3-1 win over the Blaine (Minnesota) Crush on Wednesday in pool play has given the Superiorland Soccer Association Red Bulls U12 soccer team a 2-0 record in USA Cup play in Blaine.

The Red Bulls got goals from Joe Lagrou and Trevor Salmon in the first half, then put the game on ice with a marker by Salmon in the second. Drawing assists were Hunter Sides and Aidan Pascoe (2). Blaine scored late on Red Bulls goalkeeper Nicolaas Vermaat, who faced five shots in the contest.

The Red bulls were scheduled to meet CDI Roji of Mexico City today.

Earlier, the Red Bulls opened tourney play with an 8-0 triumph over Dakota REV of Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Scoring for the winners were Salmon (2), Lagrou (2), Jacob Rose, Drew Wyble, Pascoe and Finn Whalen. Collecting assists were Rose, Evan Phillips, Salmon (2), Sides and Vermaat. Vermaat in the first half and Cross Lakenen in the second tended goal for the Red Bulls.

Also in Blaine, the SSA Wave U14 girls’ squad played the Becker (Minnesota) Blaze to a 2-2 tie.

Sierra Carlson and Abby Kroll scored for the Wave with Kroll’s marker coming with less than two minutes to go to gain the tie. Carlson and Chloe Henning assisted on Kroll’s goal. Caitlin Palomaki tended net for the Wave, making 12 saves.

In the Wave’s second game of the tournament, it beat the St. Paul, Minnesota Blackhawks, 1-0, to move into the top spot in the pool.

After a scoreless first half, Carlson drew a foul which lead to a successful penalty kick as time expired. Palomaki made nine saves in goal. Defender Anna Palmcook also made a save after Palomaki was down on an initial save.

The Wave U14 play Minneapolis United today.
