Mary Helen Sarvello
ISHPEMING, MI. – Mary Helen Sarvello, age 86, of 217 W. Barnum St., Ishpeming went to be with the Lord on Monday, July 14, 2014 at 1:05pm while a patient at the Bell Hospital in Ishpeming. She was in the loving presence of her family at the time of her death.
Helen was born April 30, 1928 in Ishpeming the daughter of the late C. Raymond and Lillian (Hebert) Manley. She was a lifelong Ishpeming resident and a graduate of the Ishpeming High School, Class of 1946. She was first married to Wilfred “Pee-Wee” Mallett and together they had 3 children. Wilfred preceded her in death in 1955. Helen then married Frank Sarvello on October 29, 1960 and they had an additional two children. Helen had worked as a secretary at the Metropolitan Life Ins. Office in Ishpeming for several years, and also was an owner and operator of the Royal Bar in Ishpeming with her husband Frank.
Helen was a member of the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and a longtime member of the Paisano Club. Helen had a strong faith, she cared and prayed for others daily. Her family was the love of her life and she enjoyed cooking and baking for them and others, with brownies as one of her specialties.
Survivors include her husband Frank of Ishpeming; 4 children Thomas (Nancy) Mallett of Three Lakes, Kim (Nancy) Mallett, Lisa Sarvello and Julie Sarvello all of Ishpeming, a daughter-in-law Robin Mallett of Ishpeming; a sister Priscilla (Angelo) Tasson of Ishpeming; 10 grandchildren Michelle (Kirk) McNab, TJ (Jodi) Mallett, Craig (Amy) Mallett, Erin Mallett, Eric (Laurie) Collins, Chad (Tanya) Collins, Kristin (Shawn) Thornton, Paul Alto, Chiara (Mitch) Alto and Damian Sarvello; 12 great grandchildren Myah, Madison, Joseph, Lily, Olivia, Jack, Bryce, Ashlee, Daniel, Kimberley, Brenden and Daven; brother-in-law Richard Lucas of Ishpeming; sisters-in-law – Rose MacDonald of Midland and June Sarvello of Ishpeming; along with several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, son Terry Mallett in 2005, sister Pat Devereaux and brother Jim Manley.
The family will greet relatives and friends from 10am noon on Friday July 18, 2014 at the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at noon on Friday at St. John’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Greg Heikkala to officiate. Inurnmnet will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery.
