Phillip R. DePetro, Sr.

MARQUETTE, MI. – Phillip R. DePetro, Sr., age 75, of Marquette, entered eternal life Tuesday morning, July 15, 2014, at Marquette General Hospital, in the loving and comforting care of his family.

Phil was born January 2, 1939 in Marquette, a twin son of Palmer and Marge (Feltner) DePetro, Sr., and was a lifelong Marquette resident. A 1957 graduate of the Bishop Baraga High School, Phil was raised in North Marquette. On June 11, 1960, Phil was united in marriage to his childhood sweetheart, Shirley Tousignant, at St. Louis the King Catholic Church in Harvey. Together, the couple made their first home in Marquette Township where they later raised their family. Throughout the years, Phil was employed with the Marquette Township Water Department, Raish Oil Company in their Service Department, the Marquette Vaneer Company, and the Plumbers Union. He retired in 1981. Phil’s pastime for over 20 years was hunting, fishing, camping, and playing cards with their close friends, Peter and Charlotte Shelafoe. In his later years, he especially enjoyed following the activities of his grandchildren. Phil was a member of St. Christopher Catholic Church where he volunteered with the Men’s Club, bingo committee, St. Vincent de Paul Conference, at the St. Vincent de Paul Store in the Electrical Department. He was a past member of the 107th National Guard and was a member of the Local #506 Plumbers and Pipefitters Union.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Shirley; his children, Phillip (Lori) DePetro, Jr., Debbie M. DePetro, Mark A. (Katrina) DePetro; his grandchildren, Victoria (Jesse) Wolf, Phillip DePetro, Sarah (Joe) D’Ambrosio, Logan DePetro, Cody DePetro, James Schaffer, Joy Williams, Daniel (Laycee) Bradbury, Kristina Bradbury, Michael DePetro; two step-grandsons, Kelsey (Amanda) McMaster and Derek (Kaitlyn) McMaster. He was also the proud great- grandfather of Meladee and Kaydance Bradbury, Lily, Brennan and Brayden DePetro, Makenna and Kal-El Brown, Cady Mae DePetro, and twins Marissa and Dylan D’Ambrosio, and Kaia Schaffer. Also surviving are Phil’s twin brother, David (Anne) DePetro; brother-in-law, William Kunick; several aunts, nieces, and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Phil was preceded in death by a grandson, James Tyler DePetro; his sister, Marge Kunick; brother and sister-in-law, Palmer “Pickles” and wife, Jeanne DePetro; and many aunts and uncles..

The family will receive relatives and friends at St. Christopher Catholic Church on Friday, July 18, beginning at 10:00 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon with Rev. Michael Chenier as celebrant, assisted by Deacon Brandon Oman. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall. Burial will be made in the Holy Cross Cemetery.
