United U16 finish as runners-up

BLAINE, Minn. – A 2-0 loss to Haiti in the championship game left the Upper Peninsula Football Association’s United U16 boys soccer team with a second place finish in the Schwan’s USA Weekend Cup in Blaine, Minnesota, over the weekend.

Haiti scored 10 minutes into the second half on a chip shot past United goalkeeper Kevin Priebe, then added an insurance goal in the closing minutes past Jacob Paupore, who had replaced an injured Priebe.

The UPFA squad was made up of 18 players from around the U.P. Superiorland players were Ben Cole, Linden Cote, Jacob Darner, Eric Gencheff, Preston Marchant, Nick Mercier, Luke Pap, Jacob Patterson, Lehomm Pickard, Collin Shinners and Joe Weber of Marquette; and Paupore of Negaunee.

The team was coached by Norman Power, Brian McGowan, and Jack Curtin of the Marquette Soccer Academy.
