North Star board meets Wednesday

MARQUETTE – At its meeting Wednesday, North Star Academy’s Board of Directors will consider whether to authorize the hiring of a special education paraprofessional, as well as taking routine action to borrow funds to cover a summertime gap in state aid and approve contracts from various service providers for the upcoming school year.

The board will meet at 5:15 p.m. at North Star Academy.

North Star CEO and Superintendent Karen Anderson said the meeting is entirely routine, “exactly what we have at any July meeting.”

The board will consider hiring Karla Salo in the position of special education paraprofessional.

In other action, the panel will consider authorizing borrowing funds to cover the school’s costs of operations until state aid is disbursed for the upcoming school year, which Anderson said is something that many area school districts do.

Additionally, members will consider the approval of contracts with the Marquette-Alger Regional Educational Agency for payroll and accounting services, Outdoor Aesthetics for ground maintenance services, Associated Constructors for snow removal and Checker Transport for transportation.

The board will also approve the schedule for the high school’s 2014-15 school year.
