Sharon A. Delongchamp
ISHPEMING, MI. Sharon A. Delongchamp, 60, of 1765 S. Rose Street, Ishpeming, passed away on July 11, 2014. Sharon was born December 26, 1953 in Laurium, MI, to Diana (Yokie) and Carl Salmi.
Sharon was a lifelong resident of Ishpeming where she was employed by NICE Community Schools as a Title I Aide and school bus driver, retiring in 2013 with over 20 years of service.
In 1969, Sharon married the love of her life, Daryl, whom she shared a life and raised a family with for over 45 years. Sharon had a love for softball and played on several teams primarily as a pitcher throughout the years, traveling across the UP with Daryl there as her biggest fan. Sharon had a passion for music and could play many instruments by ear. She wrote many of her own songs, which she often played around the campfire with her acoustic guitar, which she always had in tow.
Sharon’s greatest joy was her grandchildren who she loved with all of her heart and soul and was known for spoiling mercilessly. Sharon was lovingly known as “grandma” by many.
The love of her job and the students at NICE Community Schools was apparent by the big smile she always had on her face and by the students who often came running up with a hug, or shouting a big hello to “Mrs. D.”
Surviving are her loving husband, Daryl, two daughters, Tammy (Scott) LaMora, of Marquette, Kari (Jason) Salmi, of Ishpeming, 7 cherished grandchildren, Nathan Clisch, Courtney Clisch, Nathan LaMora, Emilee LaMora, Louis Salmi, Jack Salmi, and Charles Salmi, 3 sisters, Vicki (John) Ostlund of Ishpeming, Charlene (Rich) Hagerman, of Zion,IL, and Shelby (Paul) Hella, of Mohawk, MI, one brother, Dann (Carrie) Salmi, of Kaukauna, WI, 5 brothers-in-law, David (Sherry) Delongchamp, Roger Delongchamp, Jerry (Amanda) Delongchamp, Joseph (Debbie) Delongchamp, and Bob (Marsha) Delongchamp, and one sister-in-law, Sandy “Sis” (Doug) Schoonover, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Robin Salmi, sister Toni Wyngaard, and sister Anita Salmi.
The family will greet relatives and friends from 4:00 5:30pm on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at 5:30pm on Wednesday at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home with the Rev. D. Michael Carriere to officiate.
