NMU swimmers saluted

MARQUETTE – Members of the Northern Michigan University women’s swimming and diving team are more than just athletes. They’re scholars, too.

The Wildcats have been named a Scholar All-America team by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America after posting a grade point average of 3.43.

That was the 17th-highest GPA in NCAA Division II during the winter semester.

“We take our academics – as well as athletics – seriously and I was pleased to see that we were the top school for (the GLIAC),” NMU head coach Heidi Voigt said.

“The winter semester can be difficult on our team because we’re traveling more than in the fall, but I was very happy to see that they had done so well. They take pride in their schoolwork.”

NMU had the top-ranked team GPA in the GLIAC, followed by Lake Erie (3.29), Malone (3.27), Wayne State (3.26), Findlay (3.25), Hillsdale (3.17) and Grand Valley State (3.16).
