Technical problem shortens Marquette fireworks display

MARQUETTE – A technical problem shortened the fireworks display thousands were enjoying late Friday in Marquette’s Lower Harbor Park.

According to Tom Baldini, chairman of the Marquette Fourth of July Fireworks Committee, a small fire caused by the severing of a main communications cable created technical and safety problems and the display had to be halted.

Baldini said the show was based near the Lower Harbor Ore Dock, with the fireworks shot from a barge.

Although some fireworks had been released, Baldini said, “Obviously, we’re very disappointed.”

There were no injuries reported, he said.
