Blues earn top seed in Mid-Pen playoffs

MARQUETTE – The Marquette Blues American Legion baseball team is the top seed heading into next week’s Mid-Pen League playoff tournament in Channing after finishing 11-1 in league play this summer.

The tournament begins Monday with No. 4 Hancock (2-10) facing No. 5 Ishpeming (2-5) at 6:30 p.m. EDT in Channing. The winner advances to play the No. 1 Blues at 5 p.m. on Tuesday in the first semifinal.

No. 3 Channing (6-4) hosts No. 2 Kingsford (8-4) in the other semifinal on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

The Mid-Pen League Championship is set for 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday in Channing.

The Blues, who are currently 32-9 overall after losing 3-0 at home to Gladstone earlier this week, play a non-league doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. today against Niagara, Wisconsin.
