Family celebrates pair of graduations
MARQUETTE – A family with ties to the area is celebrating recent graduations.
Alexander Hakkola graduated with honors (cum laude) from the University of Michigan on May 3 with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. An active member of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers for all four years, Alex held multiple officer positions and was president of IEEE University of Michigan Student Branch during his senior year.
Alex was also an active member of HKN (Eta Kappa Nu), an Honor’s Society, and EPEIANS, a Leader’s Society, and a member of a few other societies. The son of Jack and Bonnie Hakkola of Escanaba,
Alex is the grandson of Virginia Hakkola of Eben Junction and the late Arvo Hakkola. Alex is also the grandson of the late Jacob and Irene (Prusi) Hintsala of Republic. Alex graduated from Escanaba Area High School in 2010.
Alex’s future plans include working for Silicon Laboratories in Austin, Texas as he begins his job there in July of this year.
Arianne Hakkola graduated from the University of Minnesota on May 10 with a doctor of pharmacy degree. Arianne graduated from Northern Michigan University in 2009 and from Escanaba High School in 2005. Arianne has taken a job with Cub Foods Pharmacy in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where she has been working part-time while earning her degree. Arianne is the daughter of Jack and Bonnie Hakkola of Escanaba and the granddaughter of Virginia Hakkola of Eben Junction and the late Arvo Hakkola. Dr. Hakkola is also the granddaughter of the late Jacob and Irene (Prusi) Hintsala of Republic.
Arianne is the second doctor in the family as Jacob Hakkola graduated from the University of Minnesota last year as a medical doctor who is currently doing his first year of residency in radiology in the Minneapolis area.
