Pasquali’s, Chappers win at top of Ieague

MARQUETTE – Pasquali’s broke a tie for first place in Class B and Chappers moved into a tie for the top spot in Class C during Iron Range Women’s Softball League games played June 25.

In Class B, Pasquali’s edged Fox Negaunee, 9-7, in a battle for first place. Nicki Frisk doubled and knocked in four runs and Andria Parkinson tripled for the winners, while Toni Enrietti homered and Chelsea Roberts tripled for Fox.

Jack’s Teepee joined Fox Negaunee in second place with a 40-1 lashing of Paradise. Lindsey Thompson hit two home runs, Gabby Croley one and Tina Maki went 4 for 4 for Jack’s, while Becca Ayotte tripled and she and Sara Martin doubled for Paradise.

Signs Unlimited held off Red Rock Lanes, 14-12, in a long-ball contest. Signs’ Bee Harsch and Bethy Finnila and Red Rock’s Courtney Illikainen and Jordan Wixtrom all homered.

Dave’s Collision outhit Cliffs Natural Resources, 18-13, as the winners’ Kris Poirier was 4 for 4, Arica Altobello 3 for 4 with a homer and triple, and Mel Bess 3 for 3 with a triple.

Nikki Schultz and Ashley Pietro homered for Cliffs.

Hickey’s went wild on Jasper Ridge 2, 20-7, as Jen Laurila was 4 for 4 and Rachel Gray tripled for Hickey’s and Ella Bertucci doubled and Casey Dugan turned two double plays for Jasper.

In Class C, Chappers moved into a tie for first place by beating former top dog Eagles, 11-9. Veronica Slone was 3 for 3 including an over-the-fence home run and double, while winning teammate Shana Caliguri homered.

The Eagles’ Chastity Ellet hit a grand slam homer in a 3 for 3 night while Nancy Laine tripled.

U.P. Fabricating moved within a game of the top spot with a 15-6 win over Xccelerated Fitness. Alyse Lane was 4 for 4 and Tammy Johnson 3 for 3 for the winners, while Andrea Bourdeau and Sarah Dix each went 2 for 2 for Xccelerated.

Martin’s Sports Apparel 2 also pulled within a game of first with a 9-8 nailbiter over Rookies. Chelsea Belanger tripled while going 3 for 3 and Chandra Hintsala doubled during a 2-for-2 night.

Rookies’ Krista Squiers and Colie Ball each doubled as Squiers was 3 for 3 and Ball 3 for 4.

Chelsea Hewitt went 5 for 5 while homering in Eastwood’s 14-10 win over Wooden Nickel. The winners’ Kera Williams was 3 for 4 with a triple, while Nickel’s Kathy Zyble homered and Karen Wiegand was 2 for 3 with three RBIs.

Palomaki Family Chiropractic outlasted Willey’s Tire Shop, 9-5, as Palomaki’s Megan Pruett and Katie Trudgeon and Willey’s Monica Cox and Becky Grove all went 3 for 3.

Venice 2 dumped Creative Industries, 11-5, as the winners’ Nicole Mattila was 3 for 4 and Amy Richards 2 for 4, each scoring twice. Creative’s Jessica Juchemich was 3 for 4 with a triple and three RBIs, while teammate Brooke Kleinschmidt was 1 for 2 and knocked in a run.

In Class A, U.P. Home Health continued the only perfect season in the entire league after outscoring Crossfit 906, 29-14. Elysa Hallum and Terri Tammelin both homered for the winners, while Liz Steve hit a roundtripper and Lizzy Dauphinais-VanBuren doubled for Crossfit.

Buck’s Party Store remained within a game of the top with a 20-4 shutdown of Sister’s. Buck’s Sara Polini was 5 for 5 and Mary Niemi 4 for 5, while Jesse Rosten tripled as she and Quinn Whitford each went 2 for 3.

Jasper Ridge 1 upset former second-place U.P. Off Road & Performance, 14-13, as the winners’ Taylor Waters went 4 for 5 with a homer and Mindy Nardi 3 for 4 with a triple.

Off Road’s Brittney Racine and Jessica Collins each went 3 for 4, Racine collecting a triple and Collins two doubles.

Rookies Too/Quality Car Care held off Martin’s Sports Apparel 1, 15-12, as Becky Moyle was 3 for 4 with a triple and Angela Paris 3 for 3 for Rookies/Quality and Jill Kangas 4 for 4 and Carla Honkala 3 for 4 for Martin’s.

Venice 1 bumped off Jubilee Foods, 19-8, as the winners’ Nikki Whitford was 5 for 5 and Steph Robar homered. Cathy Bertucci was 3 for 3 for Jubilee.
