Cardinals, Royal post one-goal victories

MARQUETTE – The Cardinal Cardinals’ Noah Shevy and the Royal’s Colin Gaffney and Bailey Loukinen each scored twice to lead their teams to one-goal victories in the Under-14 Coed Division of the Superiorland Soccer Association on June 25.

Shevy was joined by teammates Olivia Arnsten and Hannah Blemberg with one goal apiece in the Cardinals’ 4-3 win over the Maize Runners. Annmarie Hytinen, Tucker Borlace and Anders Sorensen all scored for Maize.

Royal won by an identical 4-3 count over the Smashing Pumpkins as the Pumpkins’ Clare Belkowski had two goals and teammate Karsten Kamps one.

The Green Beans upended Lime, 10-2, as the winners’ Jaden Wrobel had five goals, Cole Dowrick two and Taylor Klarich one. Alexis Tierrablanca had both of Lime’s tallies.

In the day’s other game, Red shut down Athletic Heather 24-0 with Desirae Fernandes notching 11 goals, Andrew Olender seven and Trent Sweeney six.

On June 18, the Maize Runners beat Lime, 2-1. Sydney Kivi scored the lone goal for Lime, while scorers were unavailable for Maize.

The Cardinal Cardinals blanked the Smashing Pumpkins, 10-0, behind five goals by Shevy, two by Arntsen and one each by Faith Guizzetti, Madeline Milkey and Robert Bell.

Red Bulls win

In a “friendly” game played June 26 at the Kaufman Sports Complex, the SSA’s Marquette Red Bulls U-12 team defeated the Marquette Soccer Academy, 5-1.

The Red Bulls remain undefeated since the spring restart of the season after Trevor Salmon notched three first-half goals, the first two coming off passes from Drew Wyble to give the latter his 50th career assist in travel soccer games.

The score became 4-0 at halftime after Cross Lakenen scored and Nicolaas Vermaat posted the first-half shutout.

MSA pulled within 4-1 on a Kobe Guidebeck goal before Salmon rounded out the scoring from a pass by Hunter Sides.

Lakenen worked in the net in the second half for the Bulls, facing two shots.

The Red Bulls (12-2-2 overall) are off until traveling to Minnesota for the USA Cup from July 14-19.

U-12 girls

In recent action, the Orange Crush felled the Blue, 6-2, as the winners’ Jessica Bowman, Kyra Gibson and Mara Heino got goals along with Blue’s Chloe Aldrich and Carly Stephenson.

The Red Hots shut down Ash, 4-1, with Red Hots’ Sydney McCarthy and Bri Sandstrom scoring and no report available from Ash.

The Royals and Green Ninja Bunnies also faced off, but no final score was available as the Royals’ Hannah Premeau, Alena Holand, Jacey Johnson and Ainsley Kirk scored as did the Ninja Bunnies’ Emma Walker, Lea Thompson and Marianna Davis.

U-12 coed

In Week 5 play, Green tied Gray, 4-4. Goals for Green were scored by Connor McLaughlin, Ethan Sellers, Abram Moffitt and Justin Compton. Scorers were unavailable for Gray.

Blue dropped Tan, 5-3, as the winners’ Brett Wittler and Logan Alexander notched tallies and scorers weren’t available for Tan.

U-10 coed
