MARQUETTE – The Marquette city landfill was granted a reprieve Thursday after a Lansing circuit court judge blocked a state attempt to close a dozen northern Michigan landfills. MARQUETTE – Marquette is donning its homecoming clothes in preparation for the celebration from July 3 to 12. Decorators have begun their work and by Thursday morning all the buildings on Front and Washington Streets, including city hall and the post office, will be trimmed with banners, flags, streamers and bunting. Already more than a score of former Marquette residents living in towns many miles away have come here to visit “the old home town,” most of them coming in answer to invitations to be here.
