Robert C. Gero

RICHMOND TWP, MI – Robert Cloyd Gero, 81, of State Highway M-35, Richmond Township, died at 11:07 pm on Thursday, June 26, 2014 at the Mather Nursing Center.

Robert was born November 9, 1932 in McClure, PA to Foster and Grace (Hayes) Boonie. He graduated from Louisville High School in Ohio, Class of 1951. After graduation, he served in the United States Air Force from 1951-55. Following his service to his country, Robert was employed as an Electronics Technician for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). His employment brought he and his wife to numerous locations throughout his career, finally settling in Suomi location in Richmond Township in July of 1967.

Mr. Gero was a member of Mitchell United Methodist Church, Negaunee; Masonic Lodge #202, Negaunee where he was a 33rd Degree Mason; Scottish Rite; Northern Air Modelers; Ahmed Shriners; Order of the Eastern Star; life member of the National Rifle Association (NRA) and the Academy of Model Aeronotics (AMA). In his free time he enjoyed model airplaning, hunting, fishing and trapping. Most of all, he enjoyed helping others and spending time with his family.

Surviving are his loving wife of 60 years, Barbara (Emerson) Gero; son, Robert (Pollyanna) Gero, Jr. of Lebanon, IL; 2 daughters: Lynne (John) Kallio of Gwinn and Betty (Michael) Anderson of Lexington, VA; 7 grandchildren: Jennifer (David) Emard, Ann (Stephen) Valenti, Joshua and Caleb Drake, Luke (Angela) Anderson and Jared Anderson, and Ashley Rhodes; 5 great-grandchildren: Ethan, Morgan and Trent Emard, Tasha and Cholena Valenti; 2 sisters: Betty (James) Lehberger of Massilon, OH and Jean Zwang of Phoenix, OR; a brother, Richard (Nancy) Gero of North Canton, OH; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; his adopted parents, Donald and Mildred (Hayes) Gero; and 11 brothers and sisters.

Masonic services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, June 30 at the Koskey Funeral Home in Negaunee. Interment will take place in Salem, OH. The family will greet relatives and friends from 10:00 am until the time of services at 11:00 am at the funeral home on Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed in Robert’s memory to the Ahmed Transportation Fund, 128 W. Washington St., Marquette, MI, 49855.
