Myrtle A. Rivord
ISHPEMING TWP, MI – Myrtle A. Rivord, age 84 of 100 S. Pansy St. Ishpeming was reunited with her husband Lewellyn when she joined him in the loving hands of our Lord on Thursday June 26, 2014.
Myrtle was born August 12, 1929 in the family home in North Lake location to William & Pearl Evelyn (Larmour) Nelson. She was a graduate of Ishpeming High School and worked briefly at the H.W. Gossard Company. Myrtle and her late husband Lew raised a family of six children. She was the accountant of the family rental business Rivord Rentals.
Myrtle was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church until she relocated to Illinois where her and her family became active members of St. Christophers. After 20 years, she returned to her birth place joining St. Pius X Catholic Church where her brothers and sisters worshiped.
Myrtles life centered around her family. She always had a listening ear and busy hands sewing, knitting or crocheting. She also enjoyed board games especially Chinese Checkers. A highlight of her week was playing cards with her sisters and niece. She also enjoyed shopping at Walmart and dining out afterwards.
Myrtle is survived by her six children: Linda (Greg) DeGabriele of Negaunee, Barbara (Arthur) Dery of Deming, NM, Mary K. Holkko of Ishpeming, Robert (Marsha) Rivord of Ishpeming, Dennis Rivord of Humboldt, TN and John (Suzy) Rivord of Ishpeming, 3 sisters: Norma (James) Belmore of Marquette, Mary Lou (Sherwood) Morcom of Ishpeming, and Kay (Reuben) Ollila of Ishpeming, 4 brothers: John (Genevieve) Nelson of Ishpeming, Jim (Joan) Nelson of Ishpeming Ken (Shirley) Nelson of Marquette and Michael (Doreen) Nelson of Marquette, 16 grandchildren: Jeffery DeGabriele, Arthur Dery Jr, Daniel Rivord, Toby Rivord, James Dery, Shiloh Bean, Julie Plankey, Michael Rivord, Kathy Poirier, Christopher Rivord, Denci Thomas, Jason Rivord, Angela Rose, Suzanne Paiva, Maryanne DeGabriele and Elizabeth Holkko, 20 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Myrtle was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lewellyn in 2008, a sister Evelyn Eckloff and brothers: Robert, William, Richard, George & Thomas Nelson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Monday June 30, 2014 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, with Fr. Greg Heikkala officiating. Interment will take place in the Ishpeming Cemetery.
Myrtle’s family will greet relatives and friends on Sunday, June 29 from 6:00-8:00pm at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home where a parish prayer vigil will be held at 8:00pm. The family will also greet relatives and friends on Monday, June 30 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church from 10:00am until the time of service at 11:00 am.
Pallbearers will be Myrtle’s grandsons.
