Carmena A. Gualazzi

MARQUETTE, MI. – Carmena Annunciation Gualazzi , age 87 of 1302 North Bay Court, Marquette, was called home to the Lord on June 25, 2014 in the care of her loving family and Lake Superior Hospice.

Carmena was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan on March 25, 1927 to Biaggio and Rose Fazi. Nick and Carmen grew up across the street from each other in the Soo and were childhood sweethearts. After attending Soo High School Carmen moved to Chicago to work and be near her sister, Mary.

When Nick returned from World War II they were married on February 1, 1947 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sault Ste. Marie. They lived in Chicago for a few years and returned to the Soo in 1955. Nick entered the insurance business and was transferred to Marquette in 1967. Carm worked along with Nick in his State Farm Insurance office for many years.

Her greatest love was her family, children and grandchildren. She loved to cook and did so at many big family gatherings. Her specialty was authentic, Italian dishes. She enjoyed attending St Louis the King Church where her cousin, Father Ben Paris is pastor. She was a lifetime member of the Christopher Columbus Ladies Auxiliary in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.

Carm was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Mary Paoli and brothers, Valentino and Michael Fazi.

Her kindness, caring ways and love of tradition and family have inspired all who knew her, but especially her children and grandchildren. She will live on in our hearts forever.

Visitation will be held at St. Louis the King Catholic Church in Marquette on Saturday from 10 a.m. until 12 Noon where a Funeral Mass will be celebrated at noon on Saturday with the Very Rev.
