Chocolay officer at fault in U.S. 41 crash

MARQUETTE -On Friday, officers from the Marquette City Police Department responded to a personal injury accident on U.S. 41 that involved a Chocolay Township Police Department vehicle.

The police vehicle was driven by Chocolay Township Officer Anthony Carrick, who had reportedly picked up a juvenile runaway from officers of the Marquette City Police Department. The runaway was located during a traffic stop in a suspected stolen vehicle.

Carrick entered U.S. 41 South from South Lake Street and was struck by a northbound vehicle driven by Andrew Mills.

After striking the police vehicle, Mills’ vehicle crossed over the center line and struck another vehicle, driven by Carl Jamison, who was traveling south. Jamison’s vehicle then struck another vehicle driven by Howard Tobin, who was also traveling southbound.

Carrick and Mills were both transported to Marquette General Hospital by MGH EMS.

An investigation into the accident concluded that Carrick failed to yield to oncoming traffic as he entered U.S. 41.
