Delta police release names in Fatal ORV crash
ESCANABA – The Delta County Sheriff’s Office has released some of the names of those involved in a fatal off-road vehicle and semi tractor-trailer crash Sunday in Brampton Township, which resulted in the death of a 12-year-old Brampton boy.
Deputies said they responded to a personal injury accident, which was reported at 5:11 p.m. Sunday and occurred on M-35, near 26th Lane. Michigan State Police troopers and deputies arrived at the accident scene, finding Wesley James Rein, 12, deceased.
Police said Rein had been riding on a 4-wheeler, which was driven by a 15-year-old male from Brampton. Deputies did not release the driver’s name today.
Police said the two boys were attempting to cross M-35 when they struck a southbound semi tractor-trailer driven by Scott Schwittay, 48, of Wisconsin.
Police said the driver of the ORV was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba, where he was treated for his injuries and later released.
The crash remains under investigation.
Deputies were assisted by the Michigan State Police Motor Carrier Division, Delta County Victim Services, Rampart EMS and Brampton Township Fire.
