Baldwin, Lankinen appointed to the county’s solid waste management authority
MARQUETTE – The Marquette County Board made two appointments Tuesday to the Solid Waste Management Authority.
At the end of the month, there will be two openings on the authority; one vacancy is for a one-year term expiring July 1, 2015; the second vacancy is for a three-year term ending July 1, 2017.
Incumbent Carr Baldwin of Ishpeming was the only applicant for the one-year term and he was appointed to fill the vacancy. Incumbents Jorma Lankinen and Leonard “Sam” Elder, both of Marquette had applied for the three-year term.
The board selected Lankinen to fill the second vacancy on a 4-2 vote.
The authority is a seven-member board with three members appointed by the county board, with two of the remaining members appointed by the Marquette City Commission, along with one authority appointment and the chairperson of the panel a resident of Sands Township.
Members of the panel serve staggered three-year terms.
