Viola E. Laine

MARQUETTE, MI. – Viola E. Laine, 91, died unexpectedly Monday, June 2, 2014 of a heart attack at her daughter’s home in Sun City, AZ. She was born March 28, 1923 in Eben Junction, MI, a daughter of the late Erick and Aino (Mustamaki) Lintula. Viola was a resident of Marquette, MI for 89 years before relocating to AZ.

She retired in 1986 from the food service department of Northern Michigan University where she was a supervisor for 20 years. Affectionately nicknamed “the road runner”, Viola was an avid card player (especially bridge), she enjoyed knitting and crocheting, reading, traveling and spending time with family and friends at Autrain Lake. She was preceded in death by two husbands (Leslie Hayry and Eino Laine) and her grandson, Major Mark Hayry who died unexpectedly on September 12, 2013 following a motorcycle accident.

Viola is survived by a daughter Lola and her husband Gordon Hodgson of Sun City, AZ, and a son Bruce and his wife Pamela (Engle) of Spencer, WI as well as 5 grandchildren: David Hodgson, of Peoria, AZ, Lisa (Mike) Dolinar of Bend, OR, Jeffrey Hayry of Raeford, NC, Julie (Grant) Argall of Appleton, WI, and Gregory (Lisa) Hayry of White Fish Bay, WI, and 10 great grandchildren: Brian and Christina Hodgson of Peoria, AZ, Ashley and Amber Dolinar of Bend, OR, Phillip, Jack and Will Argall of Appleton, WI, Hudson Hayry (and a new brother or sister who is expected in October 2014) of White Fish Bay, WI, and Alexis and Madox Hayry of Elgin, OK. She is also survived by a brother, Leslie “Ted” Lintula and a sister Bertha Alto, both of Eben Junction, MI, and a very special friend of the family, Ray Erdmann of Cape Coral, FL.

A graveside memorial service for Viola will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2014 at the Slapneck Cemetery where Viola will enter into eternal rest.
