Negaunee City Band opens season

NEGAUNEE – The Negaunee City Band plays its first concert of the season at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Outdoor Performing Arts Center at the east end of Iron Street.

Director Keith Lawson has chosen a program beginning with “The Star-Spangled Banner” and ending with the band’s traditional “Just a Closer Walk with Thee.”

Soloist for the week is Nate Mann, who will play the trumpet number “Essay in Blue.” Marches include “Bombasto,” “Men of Valor,” and two by Sousa: “Semper Fidelis” and “The Royal Welsh Fusiliers.” Verdi’s “Nebuchadnezzar” provides the overture, while Broadway is represented with “They’re Playing Our Song.” Several other numbers sure to please the crowd are “Themes Like Old Times,” “Gypsy Guitars,” and “Swing’s the Thing.
