MARQUETTE – The Marquette Senior High School marching band and color guard headed to Wisconsin today to tour Milwaukee and perform in Kenosha at Great America. Band director Bruce McCombie said the group will take part in a parade and concert starting at 1 p.m. Sunday in Great America.

GWINN – David Harju, assistant high school principal, recently presented awards to students in Gwinn High School’s industrial education department. Scott Dusing and Brad Mitchell were winners of the Merit Award, Stanton Hough received the Most Outstanding Student Award and William Haglund won the Most Improved Student Award.

MARQUETTE – Marquette was the warmest place in the Upper Peninsula Tuesday as the mercury soared to 86 degrees, and the mild heat wave is expected to continue at least through Thursday. Meteorologist L. W. Dahlin said the warm temperatures are due to south, southwest winds bringing in balmy air from the central Midwest.

NEGAUNEE – Bannon Dry Cleaners in Negaunee is participating in a nationwide drive, sponsored by the American Legion and its Auxiliary, in which American flags will be cleaned without charge in return for the owners’ promise to display the colors on Flag Day.
