MAPS board to receive updates

MARQUETTE – The Marquette school board on Monday is scheduled to hear an update on district initiatives as well as recognize a number of students and staff for their exemplary work.

The meeting is at 5:30 p.m. in the Marquette Senior High School Library.

On the agenda is an update from Superintendent Bill Saunders on strategic planning as well as technology.

The board will also recognize student board representative Matthew Bammert, who served during the 2013-2014 school year, as well as Marquette Area Public Schools Education Foundation grant recipients, the MAPS Education Excellence Award recipient and the 2013-2014 Teacher of the Year and Teacher of the Year finalists.

It will also consider a request from the Chocolay Lions Club for a one-day liquor license from Marquette Township to be used during its annual community day celebration. The school district must approve it because the alcohol would be sold within 500 feet of the Vandenboom Early Childhood Development Center.

It will also consider approving a 2014-2015 Michigan High School Athletic Association Membership resolution.
