Basketballs donated to local YMCA

MARQUETTE – Youths who participate in YMCA of Marquette County hoops programs have some new basketballs to use.

The YMCA has received a donation of 30 new basketballs through NBA Cares, DICK’s Sporting Goods and Spalding.

It’s one of 200 organizations nationwide to receive such an equipment donation.

The balls will be used by youth who participate in the Y’s pee wee mix it up sports, sports of all sorts, little hoopsters and youth basketball programs, according to spokeswoman Megan Gerou.

“The YMCA of Marquette County is thrilled to have been selected to receive this generous donation from NBA Cares and its partners,” said Laura Murawski, Senior Program Development Leader at the local ‘Y’.

“Participating in Y sports encourages and helps kids become active, develop healthy habits, build confidence, learn about teamwork and develop positive relationships they’ll carry with them throughout the rest of their lives.”
