Bike path through Harvey gets upgrade

HARVEY – Work is continuing on schedule on the bike path in Harvey as crews resurface and widen the paved trail along U.S. 41 between M-28 and Terrace Street.

The $165,850 Michigan Department of Transportation project covers a little more than a mile and will make the bike path a uniform 10 feet wide, according to MDOT communications representative Dan Weingarten.

“The idea is just to finish it off and make it a consistent and uniform trail through the whole community of Harvey, tying the whole bike path system together,” Weingarten said.

He said the bike path was in poor condition and was 8 feet wide in most places, though its width did vary throughout that segment of the trail.

MDOT contracted with Smith Paving to complete the work, which is tentatively expected to be finished June 20.

The project will require intermittent northbound lane closures as well as pedestrian detours, according to an MDOT press release.
