ISHPEMING – Four crews are erecting new poles, and making other preparations for the “extended service” cable, part of $300,000 worth of outside work in the area phone set-up. William S. Ryan, Michigan Bell area manager said. The building programs, when completed in early 1955, will enable county phone users to dial almost any phone in the county, without any charge added to the slightly higher service rate.

ISHPEMING – An appeal to all Ishpeming residents to help transform the shopping area and store windows into a historical museum full of interesting and educational displays for the Centennial has been issued through the Ishpeming public schools in the form of a “Treasure Hunt,” for a list of articles. Robert Brown, head of the historical windows display, announced today. Merchants along the downtown streets will show antiques and other objects pertaining to the history of Ishpeming in their windows during the climatic week of observance.
