NMU swimming adds two
MARQUETTE – Northern Michigan University has added a pair of student-athletes to its women’s swimming and diving team.
NMU head coach Heidi Voigt announced Wednesday Abbi Schieber of downstate Midland has signed a National Letter of Intent and Jona Bjarnadottir will transfer from New Mexico State with two years of eligibility remaining.
Schieber comes to NMU after being named First Team All-Valley at Midland High School. Schieber was named team MVP and holds the school record for the 100-meter butterfly.
Bjarnadottir, a native of Keflavik, Iceland, competed her first two seasons at New Mexico State, where she swam in 10 different individual events as a freshman and sophomore.
In 2012, she was a member of the Icelandic National Team which competed at the Small Country Games. There, she won the gold in the 400 individual medley.
