John Raymond Hakala

ISHPEMING, MI – John Raymond Hakala, 79, of Lake Ann, passed away Saturday, May 31, 2014, peacefully at his home. John was born December 4, 1934, in Ishpeming, Michigan, to the late John and Lempi (Kauppila) Hakala.

He married Marguerite June Ransom April 10, 1958, in Ishpeming, Michigan.

John served our country for over 26 years, in the US Navy aboard the USS Caperton and in the US Air Force as a radar systems specialist and manager until his retirement as a Chief Master Sergeant in 1975.

John is survived by: his wife of 57 years, Marguerite; children, Roberta (Mike) LaValley, Debra Stutts (Bob Birch), John (Joy) Hakala, and Ray (Lilly) Hakala; 16 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and many life-long friends.

John was preceded in death by: his parents; his sister, Helen Junak; brother, Paul Hakala; father-in-law, Ray Ransom; and mother-in-law, June Ransom; brother- in-law, Robert Junak; and brother-in-law, Richard Ransom.

Cremation has taken place and private memorial services will be held at be held at a later date.

Memorials contributions may be made in John’s name to the Wounded Warrior Project.
