Vivian Marie Laituri

NEGAUNEE TWP., MI. – Vivian Marie Laituri, age 96, formerly of Negaunee Township, passed away Monday, June 02, 2014, at Marquette County Medical Care Facility.

Vivian was born March 3, 1918 in Rock, Michigan to Samuel and Saara (Narkio) Manty. She worked in the Lumber camps in her younger years. On May 31, 1941, she married Julius Laituri and they lived in Palmer for a while and then bought a farm in Negaunee Township, where she lived until October 2011.

Vivian loved her farm, her vegetable gardens and flowers. She led a very simple life, cooking on a wood stove and washing clothes with a wringer washer.

Her hobbies were making rag carpets, gardening, painting, and enjoying the outdoors, especially her walks to the “bluff”. She was a member of the Christian Science Church for many years before its closure.

Surviving are one daughter; Juliana (Roger) Herman of Ishpeming, one son; Rodney (Carol Holmes) Laituri of Negaunee, Grandchildren; Sheila (Henry) Espinoza, Steven (Sherri) Laitinen, step grandson; Roger (Leslie) Herman; great grandchildren; Jenna Espinoza, Jacob Espinoza, Kayleigh and Chelsey Laitinen, and Ann Herman; step great great grandchild; Riley, sister; Elsie Helstein of Negaunee, numerous nieces and nephews, sister-in-law; Lorraine Laituri of Palmer and brother-in-law Kenneth Laituri of Westminster, CO.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Elmer Julius Laituri in 2007, daughter, Norma Kangas on April 10, 1970, sisters; Martha Milkowski, Ellen Kallioinen, and brothers; Toivo and Reino Manty.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at Perala Funeral Home at 12:00 noon with Rev. Lauri Maki of Bethel Lutheran Church officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10:30 am until the time of service. Interment will be in Northland Chapel Gardens.

We would like to thank the personnel at Lakeview Apts. and the Marquette County Medical Care Facility for their wonderful care. Also Carol Holmes for her Wednesday lunches and shopping trips.
