NMU’s Siemer makes Team USA

MARQUETTE – Northern Michigan University sophomore-to-be John Siemer has been named to the 14-player USA Hockey national inline team for the upcoming IIHF Inline Hockey World Championships set for Sunday through June 7 in Pardubice, Czech Republic.

Siemer scored seven goals and 11 assists in 21 games as a freshman forward for the Wildcats in 2013-14. The 22-year-old from Baldwin Park, Calif., only played the second half of 2013-14 because he was ineligble to play during the 2013 fall semester.

Acocks aces Greywalls’ No. 3

MARQUETTE – Jim Acocks recorded the first hole-in-one of the season at Marquette Golf Club on Wednesday.

It was his first ace in 50 years of playing golf.

Acocks used a 6-iron to hole the 148-yard No. 3 on the Greywalls Course. He finished with a round of 35-42- 78.

Wisconsin, Marquette trios win

K.I. SAWYER – Three Wisconsin men captured one division while a trio from Marquette the other at the fifth annual Senior 3-Man Scramble golf tournament held at Red Fox Run Golf Course on May 23.

In the 65 years and older bracket, Marquette’s David Cooper, John Mallon and Bill Etten recorded 61 to win by one stroke over Rick Ebbesen, Dennis Bratonia and Jim Broman. Jack Woodall, Jim Litwaitis and Howard Burke shot 64.

In the 64-younger division, Pound, Wis.,-based Dave Wernecke, Dave Larson and Denny McAllister notched 55 for a six-stroke victory.

Next came Jim Picotte, Ed Flath and George Gager with 61; Joe Boogren, Greg Delmet and Clyde Nyman with 63; and Randy Paris, Dan Negrinelli and Gary Rautio with 64.

The 64-younger winners also won the only skin of the day by shooting an eagle on the 10th hole.
