Parks getting new restrooms
MARQUETTE – The Marquette City Commission Tuesday approved an agreement for the construction of three restrooms at Presque Isle, Williams and Harlow parks as a Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund development project.
The city is to provide a 26 percent grant match of $104,000 for the project, which is not to exceed $296,000. Grant proceeds will be for the construction and design of the restroom facilities.
The MNRTF is a restricted fund to be used for public land acquisition for outdoor recreation and resource protection as well as projects for public outdoor recreation.
A restroom at Presque Isle will be replaced, while porta potties now are being used for Williams and Harlow parks.
Commissioner Don Ryan said, “They all have some degree of maintenance with them, and this is really just creating some permanent facilities to enhance our parks, and I think that’s a good thing.”
The city will maintain the facilities for public use. It is anticipated bidding and construction will take place in the summer of 2015.
